If you smell gas or rotten eggs, stop here. Do not flip switches or relight anything. Leave the house, then call Xcel Energy at 800-895-2999 or 911 from outside. A furnace call can wait; a gas leak cannot.
Carbon monoxide alarm going off? Get everyone outside and call 911. Then call us from the driveway. A cracked heat exchanger or blocked flue can put CO into the house with no smell at all, which is why every Arvada home with a gas furnace needs a working CO alarm on each floor.
What happens when you call at 2 AM
- Someone answers. Not a menu, not voicemail. One ring, any hour, including holidays. You describe what the furnace is doing and whether the house has any heat at all.
- You get a range on the phone. Based on the symptom and the furnace age, you hear this quarter's Arvada price range for the likely repair before anyone is dispatched. The written number comes on site, before work starts.
- You get a window. No-heat calls go to the front of the board. In most of Arvada that means a truck within hours overnight and the same morning at the latest. When a cold snap has every truck on the west side running, you hear that honestly, with the first real slot, not a promise that slips.
- A tech shows up and fixes it. Trucks stock the parts that fail on Arvada furnaces at 2 AM: ignitors, flame sensors, pressure switches, capacitors, limit switches. Most overnight calls are fixed on the first visit.
What counts as an emergency
Any of these gets a truck tonight rather than tomorrow:
- No heat and the outdoor temperature is below freezing, or headed there.
- Infants, elderly family, or anyone medically vulnerable in the house.
- A furnace that is running but you can smell burning, see soot, or hear banging from the burner compartment.
- Any risk of pipes freezing: an unfinished basement, a crawlspace, or an older Arvada ranch with plumbing on exterior walls.
If the house is at 60 degrees and it is 40 outside, you may prefer a first-thing-in-the-morning slot at the standard daytime range. You choose. The phone will lay out both.
While you wait for the truck
- Try the five-minute checklist: thermostat batteries, furnace power switch, breaker, filter, blower door. A third of no-heat calls end here.
- Open cabinet doors under sinks on exterior walls and let a faucet drip if the house is dropping below 50 degrees.
- Close doors to rooms you are not using and gather in one room with a space heater if you have one. Keep it three feet from anything that burns.
- Do not run the oven with the door open for heat, and do not bring a grill or generator inside. Carbon monoxide does not smell like anything.

Where the trucks run overnight
Arvada, Olde Town, Applewood, Leyden, Candelas, and Wheat Ridge. Westminster and Golden on most nights. If you are outside that, the phone will say so up front rather than book a truck that cannot get there.
If the furnace dies during the day, the same number books same-day service. Send a photo of the sticker through the photo quote and the tech often arrives with the part already on the truck.
